Sweat Lodge Experience
An ancient tradition. A meaningful connection. An experience that stays with you.
MEET YOUR DISCERA INSIDER
DARREN PARRY
Darren Parry is the former Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, an author, educator, and leading voice on Native American history and Indigenous land stewardship. He is the author of The Bear River Massacre: A Shoshone History and Tending the Sacred: How Indigenous Wisdom Will Save the World. Parry teaches Environmental Humanities at the University of Utah and Utah State University, and lectures nationally and internationally on Indigenous perspectives on sustainability, climate resilience, and land stewardship.
This isn’t history observed from a distance. It’s a story shared person to person.
THE DISCERA DEPOT
Your private home base for Utah Origins.
Every Utah Origins journey begins at The Discera Depot, located inside the historic Corinne Train Station at This Is The Place Heritage Park.
Meet your Discera host, enjoy refreshments and settle into the story before your experience begins. Throughout your visit, your host remains close at hand—coordinating introductions, timing, transportation and whatever else the day may bring.
Return to the Depot between experiences for a cold drink, a locally inspired treat or simply a comfortable place to pause.
No ticket windows. No figuring out where to go next. No watching the clock.
Just arrive. We’ll take it from there.
Your Sweat Lodge Experience
More than a wellness experience, the sweat lodge is a meaningful Indigenous tradition rooted in community, ceremony and respect for the natural world.
Guided by an experienced Indigenous ceremonial leader, this private experience invites you to step away from the distractions of everyday life and connect with something deeper.
Offered in two extraordinary Utah settings—This Is The Place Heritage Park and The Lodge at Blue Sky—each experience is thoughtfully hosted by Discera, with respect for the traditions and cultural protocols of the ceremony.
01 — WE COME TO YOU
Your Discera host welcomes you and coordinates your journey to the selected location. Whether nestled in the foothills at This Is The Place Heritage Park or surrounded by the mountain landscape of The Lodge at Blue Sky, your experience begins with a sense of place and purpose.
→
02 — MEET YOUR CEREMONIAL LEADER
Your journey begins with a personal introduction to the Indigenous ceremonial leader who will guide the experience.
Learn about the meaning of the sweat lodge, its place within the leader's cultural traditions and the importance of approaching the ceremony with openness, humility and respect.
→
03 — PREPARE FOR THE EXPERIENCE
Before entering the lodge, your leader explains what to expect, including the use of heated stones, water, steam and the traditions associated with the ceremony.
There is time to ask questions, understand the physical experience and prepare at your own pace.
→
04 — ENTER THE SWEAT LODGE
Step inside the lodge for a traditional ceremony conducted according to your leader's cultural practices.
Through warmth, stillness and guided reflection, guests are invited to disconnect from the outside world and be fully present.
The experience unfolds according to the traditions and direction of the ceremonial leader, rather than a predetermined itinerary.
→
05 — REFLECT & RECONNECT
Following the ceremony, take time to cool down, rest and reflect.
Depending on the setting and your leader's guidance, there may be an opportunity for conversation, refreshments and sharing what the experience has meant to you.
Some moments are best remembered not for what happened, but for how they made you feel.
→
06 — RETURN
Your Discera host coordinates your departure or transition to your next experience.
You leave with more than a memory of an extraordinary place—a deeper appreciation for a living cultural tradition and the people who carry it forward.
→
A Note About the Experience
The sweat lodge is a living cultural and ceremonial tradition, not a conventional spa treatment. Participation is guided by the ceremonial leader, and specific practices may vary according to cultural protocols, location and the needs of the group.
The ceremony involves significant heat and may not be appropriate for everyone. Guests should disclose relevant health concerns in advance, and participation should always be voluntary.
